Local church ministry requires servants in all types of roles and sometimes those roles are not titled as easily as “pastor,” “music minister,” or “youth pastor.” If you want to serve the Lord but don’t yet know the specifics, the Church Ministries major at Heartland is designed to provide you with a well-rounded, general ministry education that can prepare you to serve in whatever way the Lord may eventually guide you.
Early in the program, you will receive a solid foundation in Bible doctrines and Baptist distinctives, as well as a strong general education that is built on a Christian worldview. As you progress further in your course of study, you will have the opportunity to take key courses that cover a variety of ministry settings, such as Principles of Biblical Counseling, Philosophy of Christian Education, Children’s Ministries, and Marriage & Family in Ministry. Men will have the opportunity to take courses such as The Second Man (assistant pastor) and Church Sound Technician. Ladies will have the opportunity to take courses such as Classroom Leadership and Child/Youth Development.
HBBC emphasizes local church ministry as a part of every program. You will have the opportunity to learn about, to observe, and to participate in a variety of established ministries at Southwest Baptist Church. Plus, throughout your time as a Church Ministries major, you will be involved in an internship specifically designed to help you apply content from the classroom to real-life church ministry.
Regardless of the area of ministry to which the Lord directs you, HBBC’s Church Ministries major can equip you for effective service in the local church.
